My brother Scot and I traveled to the College World Series in Omaha June 25-28 to watch our Texas Longhorns play in the Championship Series against the Florida Gators. Click to see a larger version and view more photos from our trip.

A friend of mine at work has an audio stream (powered by QuickTime Streaming Server) that’s one of my favorite things to listen to during the day. His musical tastes and knowledge are much broader than mine, so I am constantly exposed to new artists and songs that I’ve never heard before.

One day while listening to KMAG (the name of his stream) I heard a song that instantly piqued my interest and I inquired about it the next time I saw him. “Who sings that song that goes “I probably love you” ?

And you know what? It was even simpler than the WordPress docs promised. They claim a 5 minute installation. Mine took about 3. Exporting my content from Movable Type to WordPress took another two. What an amazingly pleasant experience! We need to make it this easy for Windows users to switch to Macintosh.

Back in the early 90’s I used to run a Bulletin Board System (BBS) called Spanky’s SportsNet. It began with Hermes software on a Mac SE with four megs of RAM and a 20 MB hard disk, and transitioned to First Class software on a Mac IIsi.

Recently while fishing around some old DAT tapes I came across a backup of the SportsNet that was made just before the transition to First Class. On a lark I decided to restore it to a hard disk and see if it would launch. Amazingly enough, Hermes opened up just dandy, complaining only that it didn’t see a modem on the serial port. That’s not surprising since modern day Macs don’t even have serial ports.
