Stormalong Bay
March 6th, 2005 by Glenn Chase

After our last Disney trip Alison’s absolute favorite feature of our Disney Resort was Stormalong Bay, the incredible collection of pools, lagoons, water slides, and beaches shared by guests of the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

Stormalong Bay has a reputation as the best resort pool at Disney World, and it was the primary reason I selected the Beach Club over other resort options for our Spring Break trip in 2005. For a great tour of Stormalong Bay check out this online slideshow.

Imagine the sinking feeling in my stomach when I read that it was closed for refurbishment!

I found multiple posts on the DisBoards discussion forums on this topic, all confirming that Stormalong Bay was not fully open. Disappointed guests who had just returned from a stay at the Yacht or Beach Club advised that the Shipwreck Slide was closed and that no workers were ever seen working on it!

I began researching the other resort options to see what kind of pool areas they had and their proximity to the parks we’ll be spending most of our time at. The Disney web site had no indication that the Bay was being refurbished. Then I decided to check with our travel agent (Keith at All Seasons Travel to see if he could find out more. I was somewhat reassured when he replied to my email advising that Stormalong Bay was scheduled to reopen fully on March 1. Tonight I saw a message posted to the DisBoards from a guest who recently returned from a stay at the Beach Club confirming that Stormalong Bay is indeed completely open.

You can be certain that I am more than ready to relax on a poolside lounge next to the sand-bottom pool and enjoy an umbrella drink (nonalcoholic, of course) while I watch Alison splash and swim in the best pool we’ve ever seen.
